The Property Crimes unit consists of highly-trained detectives who handle the investigation of all residential burglaries, business burglaries, vehicle burglaries, auto theft, theft  and criminal damage among other property related crimes. These investigators handle thousands of investigations each year, and they conduct follow-up investigations on reports that were generated by the criminal patrol division.

These detectives handle their investigations in an assigned district. Their duties are to search for trends in property crimes, identify possible suspects and attempt to reach a successful conclusion in all cases. These investigators work with other, smaller agencies within the parish, attempting to link crimes and trends. These investigators also work closely with the crime lab, narcotics and juvenile divisions, as well as other agencies in the surrounding area, including military and federal investigators.

The duties of these investigators also include white-collar crime. These crimes include identity theft, computer crime, fraud, contractor fraud, counterfeit and forgery cases. These types of cases are becoming more prevalent and are being addressed accordingly.
