Capt. Brian Beech

The Special Victims Unit (SVU) is tasked with investigating crimes of an extremely sensitive nature.

The detectives in this division typically investigate crimes involving sexual assault or crimes who require specialized handling, such as crimes that involve juveniles.

This division is charged with the investigation of any reported rape, molestation, incest, sexual battery, carnal knowledge or pornography, but the SVU detectives also work all cases that concern the care, exploitation, supervision, neglect, physical abuse and/or custody of juveniles as well as cases of reported sex trafficking of both adults and juveniles.

As it takes a special person in order to investigate these types of crimes, the detectives assigned to the Special Victims Unit are highly trained and professional.  The STPSO Special Victims Unit attempts to minimize the stress and further victimization by working closely with the Office of Community Services, the Children’s Advocacy Center/Hope House, Families in Need of Services, other law enforcement and/or child protection agencies, as well as the District Attorney’s office.
