In November 2007, the Major Crimes Unit was organized, utilizing the investigative resources that were presently available. The Major Crimes Unit was commissioned and staffed by experienced investigators and charged with solving the more complex investigations.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit investigate homicides, armed robberies, home invasions, rapes and other sensitive investigations when called upon. In addition to criminal offenses, the Major Crimes Unit is responsible for all death investigations while working closely with the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office to ensure the facts are gathered and questions are answered concerning the unexpected deaths of individuals or those falling victim to unusual circumstances.

Detectives assigned to this unit are in constant cooperation with neighboring jurisdictions to stay current on violent crime trends and keep a good working relationship with other agencies to extend our investigative arm when needed. In addition to investigating offenses occurring within our own parish boundaries, Major Crimes is commonly called upon to assist out of town agencies with their cases that are linked to St. Tammany Parish.

The detectives assigned to the Major Crimes Unit are committed to solving cases regardless of obstacles that may confront them. Each member is an essential part of a team, bringing forth their own experience and skills for a combined effort to bring offenders to justice. In addition, the investigators are proud to give the victims of violent crimes or their surviving love ones a sense of closure at the same time sending a message that serious offenders will be brought to justice by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.
