Personnel are also provided in-service training in night-firing techniques, high-speed pursuit driving, traffic stops, and leadership as well as policy and procedure updates.
Basic Academy Training
Prior to assuming a deputy sheriff’s position with full arrest powers, St. Tammany Parish Deputies must first complete Basic Academy Training. All full-time sworn law enforcement officers in Louisiana must successfully complete a Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) approved basic law enforcement academy.
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Basic Training Academy consists of 14 weeks (526 hours) of basic law enforcement training. In addition to St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies, the Basic Training Academy accepts qualified Reserve law enforcement officers from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.
